22-24 May 2009.
http://icws2009.org
Deadline for papers submissions: 30th November 2008
Letter from the Organizing and Program Committees
Dear All,
The 1st International Conference for the Web Science , is an international attempt to promote the WEB
SCIENCE research and to bring together the international community for a dialogue on the main aspects of
the Web Science. The ICWebScience Series will bring together Academics, People from Industry, Policy
Makers, Politicians, Government Officers and active citizens to look at the impact of WEB SCIENCE, on key
facets of today’s world: the state, business, society and culture.
Six general pillars provide the constitutional elements of the ICWebScience 2009:
- The understanding of the Reference Disciplines of the WEB SCIENCE
- The Definition of Methods, Theories and Constitutional Elements of the WEB SCIENCE
- The analysis of the integration of PEOPLE, PROCESSES, SYSTEMS, SOCIETY, HUMANITY through WEB SCIENCE RESEARCH
- The presenation of WEB SCIENCE case studies and the fostering of a multidisciplinary community to look
for the converging points towards research contributions
- The development of a WEB SCIENCE RESEARCH HANDBOOK
The IC-WebScience2009 is an excellent opportunity for discussing the new context of our lives. Looking
forward to see you in Athens, in the Spring of 2009. The presentation of the INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF WEB
SCIENCE and the presentation/publication of HANDOOK OF WEB SCIENCE RESEARCH, a 1500+ edition will set up
an excellent context for further exploitation. Last but not least. We are looking forward for your active
participation. Send a mail to info@... and we would be happy to
welcome you on board.

[Dbworld] Journal of Database Management (JDM) Special Issue on Design Research

Journal of Database Management (JDM)
Impact Factor: 1.854 Immediacy Index: 1.267
Editor-in-Chief: Keng Siau, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Official Publication of the Information Resources Management Association

Special Issue on Design Research
Deadline: 15 September 2008

Special Issue Editors
Matti Rossi, Helsinki School of Economics, Finland (Lead Guest Editor)
Ola Henfridsson, Viktoria Institute & Jönköping International Business School, Sweden
Kalle Lyytinen, Case Western Reserve University, USA
Keng Siau, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, USA

Design Research (DR) has become an accepted way of doing research in information systems and is now
regarded as one of the central tenets of MIS research. This is demonstrated by the number of published
articles that either use DR as a research approach or develop the paradigm further like in the forthcoming
special issue in the MIS Quarterly. However, the boundaries of the DR are still unclear, as it was rather
narrowly construed in the influential Hevner et al article (2004) and seminal publications like March
and Smith (1995) and Walls et al. (1992). Therefore more research is needed to examine the boundaries and
the styles of doing DR. In this special issue we seek to increase diversity in studying information
systems through DR. The objective of the special issue is to bring together high-quality research on a
broad spectrum of key subjects related to DR. Submissions describing original contributions to DR as a
research approach and innovative uses of DR are strongly !
encouraged. In particular, we are interested in articles dealing with DR as a viable and varied research
approach, articles trying to augment DR with other research approaches, or studies employing DR as a
research method. Submissions do not need to be tied to a chosen or “orthodox” view of DR, but they should
demonstrate the knowledge of using DR rigorously. Papers can adopt a purely technical view of software

General page: http://www.iaria.org/conferences2009/ICONS09.html

Call for Papers: http://www.iaria.org/conferences2009/CfPICONS09.html

THEMES AND MOTIVATIONS

This year the Complex Systems Track at ICONS 09 aims to bring togheter reserachers and experts in the
multidisciplinary field of complex systems which actually needs a discussion on formal, conceptual
rapresentation and modeling to accomplish the explanation, knowledge extraction, and previsioning issues.
The event is open to experts in Biology, Immunology,Complexity,Datamining,Cognition,Simulation and
to any other field working with Complex Systems.
This track want be an opportunity to discuss the state of the art and the role of complex systems
and the application domains for the development of theoretically sound foundations
paradigms, concepts, metamodels, models, languages in this growing and fashinating field.

In particular looking at the concept of INTERACTION that is common to many scientific fields (immunology,
mulecolar biology, chemistry, phisics, informatics, datamining, multi agent based simulation) and
which is becoming more and more used in relation with complex phenomena and emergence.

Simulation, Datamining to deal with Complexity is a cross-disciplinary problem concerned with the study
of concepts and theories that can be used in a large amount of different domains in reality for
methodological issues and new Challenges.

[Dbworld] Two postdoctoral level posts at the London Knowledge Lab

*Apologies for cross-posting*

Two post doctoral level posts at the London Knowledge Lab
(http://www.lkl.ac.uk/)
School of Computer Science and Information Systems, Birkbeck College,
University of London
The Institute of Education, University of London

*The closing date for completed applications is Monday 15 September 2008*
*Interviews are due to be held week commencing 6 October 2008*

THE PROJECT
----------------------
The Learning Design Support Environment (LDSE) project is funded by the
EPSRC/ESRC under the Teaching and Learning Research Programme. The main
focus of the project is to discover how to use digital technologies to
support lecturers and teachers in designing effective
technology-enhanced learning (TEL). Methodologically, our approach will
be one of iterative design and evaluation. We will be working with
academic staff to research, and co-construct, an interactive
personalised environment to enable lecturers to lead the discovery of
innovative pedagogical designs that exploit the potential of TEL. The
project is a collaboration between six UK Higher Education institutions:
Birkbeck College, the Institute of Education, London Metropolitan
University, the London School of Economics, Oxford University, and the
Royal Veterinary College. The two posts will be based at the London
Knowledge Lab, a unique collaboration between two of the UK's most
prominent centres of world-class research - the Institute of Education
and Birkbeck.
