The combined functionality of location-aware devices, wireless networks,
and mobile computing is enabling a new era of location-based mobile
services. Examples of such services include location-aware emergency
services, elder care, navigation and wayfinding, location-based
marketing, and location-based gaming. While location-based services
promise increased safety and convenience, inappropriate use of an
individual's location information presents threats to personal privacy
and security. Recent social studies show that as people become more
privacy-aware as they tend to avoid using location-based services in
order to maintain their location privacy. As a result, there is a real
concern that the privacy issues are becoming a barrier to more
widespread development and use of location-based services.

managing advanced Web information systems. The Internet and the related technologies have created an
interconnected world in which information can be exchanged easily, tasks can be processed collaboratively,
communities of users with similar interests can be formed to achieve efficiency and improve performance,
while security threats are present more than ever before.

The goal of this track is to bring together researchers from academia and industry who are actively engaged
both in theoretical and practical aspects of Web Technologies. It will present an opportunity for researchers
to get together and share recent developments and techniques in order to identify the critical problems
and
the most promising research avenues. This track addresses the challenging Web technologies issues
focusing
on exploring novel methods, techniques, and trends to build up and manage information systems.

[Dbworld] Call for papers - DBISP2P 2007 - Databases, Information Systems and Peer-to-Peer Computing

[Apologies if you receive this more than once]

***** CALL FOR PAPERS ******

Fifth International Workshop on Databases, Information Systems
and Peer-to-Peer Computing (DBISP2P 2007)

http://dbisp2p.ingce.unibo.it/

to be held at VLDB 2007
33rd International Conference on Very Large Data Bases

24 September 2007
University of Vienna, Austria

*****************************

THE SCOPE

The aim of the workshop is to explore the promise of P2P to offer exciting new possibilities in distributed
information processing and database technologies. The realization of these promises lies
fundamentally in the availability of enhanced services such as structured ways for classifying and
registering shared information, verification and certification of information, content distributed
schemes and quality of content, security features, information discovery and accessibility,
interoperation and composition of active information services, and finally market-based mechanisms
to allow cooperative and non cooperative information exchanges. The P2P paradigm lends itself to
constructing large scale complex, adaptive, autonomous and heterogeneous database and information
systems, endowed with clearly specified and differential capabilities to negotiate, bargain,
coordinate and self-organi

http://ariadne.cs.kuleuven.be/mediawiki/index.php/What_Went_Wrong07

To be held at EC-TEL 2007
2nd European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning, (http://www.ectel07.org/)

You are invited to submit a position papers of 3 to 6 pages or a full paper of no more than 10 pages.

DEADLINES
Initial submission: 8th July 2007.
Notification of acceptance: 18th July 2007.
Final Submission: 8th August 2007.

WORKSHOP SCOPE
Underlying this workshop is our belief that:
* Learning from our mistakes is essential if we are to benefit from hard learned lessons.
* Unexpected benefits found in the jaws of failure may only emerge if we engage in risky behaviors.
* Risky behavior implies that sometimes, some things will go wrong.
* Communal wisdom needs to be shared, not just the good things, but also the pitfalls

What Went Wrong?
Most conferences and workshops report on success stories only. Make your contribution to our collective
wisdom by sharing tales and analysis of problems and pitfalls. This workshop is designed to be an
opportunity for learning, sharing and collective problem solving. If the Technology Enhanced Learning
(TEL) community is to flourish and make progress then we need to be prepared to share tales of our
disasters, how we recovered from them, and how to avoid repeating our mistakes in the future.
