[Dbworld] CFP: 2nd Ontologies for Biomedical Systems Track with IEEE CBMS 2007

2nd Special Track on Ontologies for Biomedical Systems for

20th IEEE International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems

http://cbms07.biomap.org/

Biomedical Ontologies have developed in an uncoordinated way, often reflecting mere relations of
'association' between what are called 'concepts', and serving primarily the purposes of information
extraction from on-line biomedical literature and databases. In this track we will broadly cover
current research on development biomedical ontologies, and various issues in biomedical informatics
addressed by these ontologies. Track will consist of papers in a biomedical informatics sub discipline,
refereed by international program committee. Papers selected for this special track should report on
significant unpublished work suitable for publication as a conference paper. This track will broadly
address following areas:
* Conceptual Models for Biological and Medical Data
* Biomedical Data Integration, Analysis and Interoperability
* Support of Ontologies for Biological Information Retrieval and Web Services
* Tools for Development and Management of Biomedical Ontologies

Last year the special track on ONTOLOGIES FOR BIOMEDICAL SYSTEMS at CBMS 2006 got a good response and some
high quality papers. We have accepted 8 of 17 papers submitted to the track. More information about this
track can be found at: http://cbms06.biomap.org/

In recent years, we have learned a great deal about the criteria which must be satisfied if ontology is to
allow true information integration and automatic reasoning across data and information derived from
different sources. The goal of this track is to survey existing biomedical ontologies and reform them in
such a way as to allow true information integration in biomedical domain. Authors are invited to submit
original papers exploring the theories, techniques, and applications of biomedical ontologies.
Papers are invited (but not limited) to the following themes:
* Biomedical Ontologies for Genetics, Proteomics, Diseases, Privacy etc.

http://www.i-esa.org for conference details.

Workshop Goals

To identify barriers and priorities for enabling, deploying, and managing cross-enterprise
interoperable systems in a reliable and evolvable manner. Also, to identify the requirements and
promising technologies, procedures, practices, and tools that advance standards-based approaches
for cross-enterprise interoperable systems. Of interests are existing, emerging, or on-going
research approaches.

Workshop Motivation

In todayÂ’s global industrial environment, companies need to be able to integrate across industries and
regions in a reliable and agile manner in order to maintain or increase their competitiveness. However,
efforts in Cross-Enterprise Interoperability (CEI) or Business-to-Business Integration (B2BI) are
still segmented by individual industry verticals, value chain communities, and global regions. This is
evident by the fact that industry consortia are formed first and foremost to address their own issues by

Call for Papers
===================
Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery has been widely accepted as a key
technology for enterprises and organisations to improve their abilities in
data analysis, decision support, and the automatic extraction of knowledge
from data. With the exponential growing amount of information to be included
in the decision making process, the data to be considered becomes more and
more complex in both structure and semantics. Consequently, the process
of retrieval and knowledge discovery from this huge amount of heterogeneous
complex data builds the litmus-test for the research in the area.

During the past years, the International Conference on Data Warehousing and
Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK) has become one of the most important
international scientific events to bring together researchers, developers
and practitioners to discuss latest research issues and experiences in
developing and deploying data warehousing and knowledge discovery systems,
applications, and solutions. This yearÂ’s conference (DaWaK 2007), builds on
this tradition of facilitating the cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas,

         2nd CALL FOR EXTENDED ABSTRACTS

			KWEPSY2007
		KnowledgeWeb PhD Symposium
		     Innsbruck, Austria
		      6th June, 2006
	     http://ontoworld.org/wiki/KWEPSY2007

at the 4th Annual European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC)
		   http://www.eswc2007.org/

Executive Summary
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Knowledge Web PhD Symposium aims at bringing together doctoral students within the Semantic Web
community to open their work up to discussion in a European forum, and to obtain valuable feedback from
leading scientists in the field. However, in contrast with other similar initiatives, participants to
the symposium will not only receive constructive comments with respect to topic-specific research
issues; they will also be assisted in formulating a coherent research narrative for their doctoral work.
In particular, students will be asked to submit an extended abstract, structured in accordance to a
pre-defined template, which has been designed to highlight the key methodological components required
for a sound research narrative. Generally speaking, priority will be given to 1st/2nd year PhD students
(because they are still in the process of defining the scope of their research). However, all PhD students
are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Just as in 2006 (http://www.l3s.de/kweb/kwepsy2006/), the 2nd Symposium will be co-located with the 4th
Annual European Semantic Web Conference ESWC2007. It is scheduled for the 6th of June 2007.
