are of interest are business-to-business integration, business process integration and management,
content management, e-sourcing, composite Web services creation, design collaboration for computer
engineering, multimedia communication, digital TV, and interactive Web solutions. Currently, Grid
computing has also started to leverage Web services to define standard interfaces for Business Grid
services and generic reusable Grid resources.

As the first academic conference in the field of Web services, the 2003 First International Conference on
Web Services (ICWS'03) was held at the Monte Carlo Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 23 - 26, 2003,

CFP: Encyclopedia of Knowledge Management

Encyclopedia of Knowledge Management

Preliminary Call For Articles

The Encyclopedia of Knowledge Management will be a research reference work documenting the past,
present, and possible future directions of knowledge management. Knowledge Management has evolved
into one of the most important streams of management research, affecting organizations of all types at
many different levels. The challenges of knowledge management span everything from knowledge
identification and representation, to the impact of Knowledge Management Systems on organizational
culture, to the significant integration and cost issues being faced by Human Resources, MIS/IT, and
production departments. Knowledge Management theories, models, systems, and applications abound -
each dealing with some aspect of an increasingly complex field spanning organizational theory,
strategic management, and information technology.

This volume will provide a broad basis for understanding the issues, technologies, theories,
applications, opportunities and challenges being faced by organizations today in their quest for
knowledge management.

The Encyclopedia of Knowledge Management will feature short articles (3,000-3,500 words) authored by
leading experts offering an in-depth description of key issues, terms and concepts related to different
areas in Knowledge Management. In addition, this volume will provide a compendium of terms, definitions
and explanations of concepts, processes and acronyms.

Two more weeks to the submission deadline.

More information can be found at
http://tab.computer.org/tfec/cec04/cfpWMCS.html

The First IEEE International Workshop
on Mobile Commerce and Services (WMCS)

The wide deployments of wireless networks and the explosive growth in the number of mobile users
have created a very strong demand on burgeoning mobile commerce applications and variety of mobile
services that deliver contents. According to Nokia, there are 1.4 billion mobile phone users in the world
and the number is increasing rapidly. In Europe and Asia, transactions of mobile commerce and services
are reaching billions of dollars per year. The First IEEE International Workshop on Mobile Commerce
and Services (WMCS) is the forum to discuss innovative ideas in creating cutting edge mobile commerce
systems and wireless information services, and to exchange information regarding advancements in practice
of mobile commerce and services. The target audiences will be researchers, scientists, software architects,
and industry professionals who need to be acquainted with the state of the art technologies and the future
trends in mobile commerce and wireless information services.
The event will take place in San Diego, California, USA on July 6 2004.
IEEE WMCS 2004 will be held in conjunction with The International Conference on Electronic Commerce (IEEE
CEC 2004).

Technological advances in high-throughput techniques and efficient data gathering methods
coupled with a world wide effort in computational biology have resulted in a vast amount
of life science data often available in distributed and heterogeneous repositories. These
repositories contain interesting information such as sequence and structure data, annotations
for biological data, results of complex and expensive computations, bio-medical publications,
and so on. Newer and more sophisticated computational techniques to analyze such data are
also being developed and made available for public use at a rapid pace. Nonetheless, the
multiplicity in the objectives, methods, representation, and platforms of these data sources
and analysis tools have created an urgent and immediate need for research in resource
integration and platform independent processing ofinvestigative queries involving
heterogeneous data sources and analysis tools. It is now universally recognized that a
database approach to analysis and management of biological data offers a convenient, high
level, and efficient alternative to high volume biological data processing and management.
Advances in database integration, query processing, web technology, work flow systems, and
object-orientation can be leveraged to develop novel high-performance data management systems
for biological applications.

Following the success of the 1st International Workshop on Biological Data Management last
year, we are pleased to invite original contributions in biological data management and
analysis for the 2nd International Workshop on Biological Data Management to be held in

Clustering Information over the Web

International Workshop in conjunction with
Int'l Conference on Extending Database Technology - EDBT 2004 - http://www.edbt04.gr

Date/Location : March 14, 2004 / Heraklion - Crete, Greece

Summary
Web data management has become a critical emerging research area, due to the exponential
increase in the information circulation and dissemination over the Web. Several research efforts
have already appeared in the area of Web data mining and this field seems to be of interest for
a wide academic and technical community. This workshop focuses on clustering information
over the Web, as a mostly emerging topic in current web data mining efforts. It will be important
to understand how the accessing to Web information (such as documents, link paths, and users
on the Web), is benefited by employing clustering mechanisms and methodologies.

Aim and Scope
This workshop aims to attract contributions in relation to clustering Web-related information towards:
* increasing Web information accessibility,
* decreasing lengths in Web navigation pathways,
* improving Web users requests servicing,
* integrating various data representation standards,
* extending current Web information organization practices.
New research ideas or practices in the above area are of high importance due to the difficulties

  PERVASIVE INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

International Workshop held in conjunction with EDBT 2004
  March 18, 2004, Heraklion - Crete, Greece

------------------------------------------------------------

Wireless connectivity along with increasingly small and
powerful mobile devices and sensors enables a wide
range of new applications that will radically change the
way information is managed and processed today.
Information becomes ubiquitous, highly distributed and
at the same time accessible from everywhere at any time.
Information access takes place in highly dynamic and
instable networks. Nevertheless, users and application
developers will expect information processing to
continue under similar guarantees as those offered by
today's stationary and more or less centralized systems,
even if some nodes of the pervasive information network
are (temporarily) disconnected and/or are in motion.
Examples for these guarantees are the ones given by
database management systems, e.g., consistency and
durability of data. Additional challenges stem from the
fact that mobile devices, in particular embedded devices
