DesignTools.org - New Searchable Mail List Archives

Though the project mailing lists are very low volume, we now have two
different searchable archives of the mailing lists on the web provided
by the two best archive sites, GMANE and MARC. These two mail list
archiving/indexing services use spam prevention measures to prevent the
abuse of unwanted email (i.e. preventing your email address from being
harvested by spammers).

If you have questions, ideas, opinions or feature requests please post
them to the discussion@... mailing list. User feedback is
very important since it's really the only way to improve project.

The new archives of the announce@... list are here:
http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.cad.design-tools.announce
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=designtools-announce&r=1&w=2

The new archives of the discussion@... list are here:
http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.cad.design-tools.general
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=designtools-discussion&r=1&w=2

If perchance you wish to unsubscribe from either list, please send an
email with "unsubscribe listname" to majordomo@...

Kind Regards,
J.C. Roberts

DesignTools - New Release

Hi,

Today we have a new release from the open source DesignTools project and
it includes the new Rotator program. The Rotator program is designed to
do bulk rotation of text in your design so you no longer need to waste
hours manually rotating each chunk of text to the desired position. This
is particularly helpful when you are starting to do silks or if you use
the Cadence "Modules" feature in your designs.

http://www.DesignTools.org

The idea for this tool came from Pat Davis of Millennium Design simply
because he needed something like this. With any luck, it will also save
you some time.

During the last few weeks most of the work put into the DesignTools
project has gone into the general organization and infrastructure.
Though this work doesn't immediately result in new programs or features
for end users, it will make life a lot easier going forward.

If you have any ideas, feedback or opinions please voice them on the
discussion@... mailing list.

Kind Regards,
J.C. Roberts

New DesignTools Release

Hello,

This is my first post to the members of announce@... mailing
list but I've also taken the liberty to bcc a few additional people who
might also be interested.

To the people who have signed up for the announce@...
mailing list in it's first week of existence, I wanted to say thank you
and welcome. As things start off with this open source project, you can
expect updates about once a week but as the project matures, the release
rate (and announcements) will slow down to something more reasonable.

We have a new DesignTools release today which includes a new program,
the Configurator. This small program is a part of the infrastructure
needed to handle configuration management. Full documentation can be
found on the DesignTools project web site:

http://www.DesignTools.org/programs/cadence/pcb-editor/configurator/index.php

To be perfectly honest, since none of the other DesignTools applications
have been wired into the new configuration framework, the Configurator
program by itself doesn't do much but in time it will. You may or may
not want to wait for the next release when the Configurator actually
does something useful.

I've also added extensive documentation on the Installer/Uninstaller for
the Cadence PCB Editor. If you are curious (and you should be) what the
installer and uninstaller actually do to your system, this is where to
learn about it:
