I think we should consider becoming a mentor organisation. Opinions?

I have thought about this in the past. It requires us to devise a plan
of work that is achievable within the GSoC time frame by someone new to
MantisBT (and potentially, relational database theory, semantic markup,
etc?).

Some ideas I have:

1) Transactional querying via use of a new PDO backend

Currently MantisBT fails to meet ATOM requirements because actions that
should be atomic (updating an issue) are split into multiple queries. If
one of those queries fails then only half of the issue update occurs and
the user is none-the-wiser as to what has been updated and what failed.

I have some draft code (in a local 'next' branch) that bounces off
Paul's attempts to redo the database support in MantisBT -- but uses
transactions to meet ATOM requirements. The aim being that an issue
update consisting of multiple queries (bug, attachment, history, etc
tables) would either fail as a whole (rolling back any intermediate
changes) or be successful.

A student could go through MantisBT's code base and redesign the queries
using the SQL:2008 standard in the first instance. Any case where
specific database servers don't support the standard[1] approach would
need to be addressed separately (a query lookup table like we handle

MantisBT Logo

Hi all,

I would like to finish off the work relating to updating the MantisBT logo.  I've hired a couple of designers to help us out.  In the meantime, I would the feedback from this group to make sure that we end up with an awesome logo.  The new proposals, discussions and guidelines can be found in the issue tracking the logo work:

In the issue you will find the old proposals, the new proposals, the guidelines that I wrote about what we want, and comments on the recently proposed logos.  My goal is to be done in the next week or so.

Looking forward for your feedback.

Thanks,
-Victor

Re: MantisBT Logo

It's to be written.  What is the source of your interest?  That would help me make sure your questions are answered.  I'll try to bundle this work with the creation of the new logo.

Misleading descriptions of MantisBT forks at github

Hi all,

maybe one of the users with appropriate access rights can change the project summary at https://github.com/mantisbt/mantisbt
At the moment it's "Official repository of Mantis Bug Tracker"
This is confusing because this gets also copied as the default summary when forking.

Most of the users forget to change the description after forking.

https://github.com/davidhicks/mantisbt
https://github.com/jreese/mantisbt
https://github.com/rombert/mantisbt
...

Also confusing "Official mirror of Mantis Bug Tracker on Github"

https://github.com/vboctor/mantisbt
https://github.com/grangeway/mantisbt
...

IMO "Mantis Bug Tracker" is enough information at this place and not misleading.

Cheers
Roland

Re: Misleading descriptions of MantisBT forks at github

Good point.  I'll update the mantisbt and my copies.  Funny that "mantisbt" will now be the one missing the "official" :)

Did everyone checkout the new logo candidates? I would like to close on this by tomorrow, since we seem very close now. http://www.mantisbt.org/bugs/view.php?id=7994

Nice work Victor, you've chosen designers well -- the preliminary work
I've seen in issue #7994 is well designed and has a very professional
appearance.

I particularly like Jniro_01 but agree with the comment that the critter
in the logo is friendly and not a target. It may be a little too complex
for a logo -- but have you considered replacing the critter in the
target with a bug no one likes, and then placing the Mantis critter
around the target circle (reduced in size) as if the Mantis critter is
catching the bug?

However my main concern is with the size and aspect ratio of the
critter. In preliminary MantisBT layout redesigns I've done, the logo
and title at the top of the page have tended to be removed as wasting
precious space. There would be space at the bottom of the page for a
small icon or a very elongated bit of branding (64px high by {very
wide}) because this would stay out the way. A full sized logo like the
ones shown in #7994 would still be very suitable for mantisbt.org, the
login page, redirect pages, etc which have plenty of space for a large
logo (without pushing important content out of the way).

Cheers,
David

I'll delete my 'master' branch soon because it is outdated/no longer
needed. Feel free to send me a reminder if my branch doesn't disappear
in the next few days.

Looking very good. I replied in another email to this list but forgot to
mention that we should try to get an SVG format logo as a top priority
(this way we can scale it and convert it to PNG as needed).

Also I'd like the logo separated from text on web pages so that the text
can be styled using CSS3 web fonts (making it searchable and part of the
markup that search engines see).

If all of that is possible, of course.
