[PPCBoot-users] ppcboot debug

hi everybody
Hi
i'm trying to debug PPCBOOT that running under a MPC862
i have some question to you about the debug mode. I'm using bdi2000 with
DDD to debbugging my application.

My problem is when i launch the application to see every step of the
program, few time after i have this message:

     Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted.
message of bdi :software simulation exception

i don't why this message appear and nothing be done!!
i send to you my config file for the bdi
I'have trying to modificate the value of the DER register but nothing change

best regards

You are wasting your time debugging PPCBoot. PPCBoot is a dead
project. Development has been stopped more than half a year ago. You
should use U-Boot, the successor project instead.

Which tool chain are you using, i. e. where did you get your cross
compiler and cross debugger from? Which versions?

But your DER is bogus.

[PPCBoot-users] booting linux on custom MPC board with PPCBOOT

Hi,
I have a custom board with a custom bootloader. The board is based on
MPC855T, with 8MB flash and 32MB RAM.

I have to boot linux on this board. The issue I have is this - I have to use
the custom bootloader (to be able to boot older app as well). I think I have
two ways to go -

1. Custom bootloader enhanced to be able to load Linux. I do not think it is
faster approach given the time required.

2. Tell custom bootloader to load another bootloader like PPCBOOT (U-BOOT)
and then let it load Linux. Now, to go this route, I will have to run
PPCBOOT from RAM. Reading documentation of PPCBOOT, it says that it runs
from FLASH and relocates itself to RAM.
How can run PPCBOOT from RAM directly and then tell it to load
Linux?? Any HELP would be appreciated.

You asked the same question on the linuxppc-embedded mailing list,
and received a reply there.

PPCBoot is a dead project, development has been discontinued. The
successor project is U-Boot.

All development takes place for U-Boot only now.

[PPCBoot-users] Using gcc-3.4 to compile u-boot on powerpc

Hi All, a small but important thing... I am using the latest gcc from cvs
(3.4 20030608 (experimental)) and if you build the cross compiler for a
powerpc/linux target, it leaves out the "fixup" stuff for the "-mrelocatable"
command line option. If you then want to use that cross compiler to build
"u-boot", it stuffs up with messages from the Assembler that looks something
like this (on certain C files):

... Error: Relocation cannot be done when using -mrelocatable

Since "-mrelocatable" is usually not used for Linux programs, I can't see why
they did this. Rather than have two different cross compilers, one for linux
and one for "other", which you use to compile u-boot, I chose a simple fix -
patch the file "gcc/config/rs6000/linux.h" as follows:

--- linux.h 2003/06/13 16:41:53 1.3
+++ linux.h     2003/06/20 01:28:53
 <at> <at> -84,7 +84,8 <at> <at>
 #define TARGET_64BIT 0

/* We don't need to generate entries in .fixup. */
-#undef RELOCATABLE_NEEDS_FIXUP
+/* well I do need them! */
+#define RELOCATABLE_NEEDS_FIXUP

 #define TARGET_ASM_FILE_END file_end_indicate_exec_stack

Hope this helps someone. Cheers!
