A Dutch tax application, EasyTax, uses autopackage, as reported by this
news article:

EasyTax website is here: http://www.pvcf.nl/easytax/

More commercial support. :)

Re: Autopackage used by Dutch tax software

Awesome! So can you add it to the packages list?

Also could you translate the part of the article that mentions
autopackage? It doesn't *seem* to be a Linux site ...

Translation of developer tools

Hi list.

Me and Mike had a discussion yesterday about removing the translations
for the developer tools (makeinstaller and (un)setup). The reason is
obviously to reduce the number of strings to translate, which in my
copy of HEAD is around 300(!) now for core+gtkfe.

By removing those strings, the numbers would decrease with about 50-60 strings.

The argument for removing them is that developers are supposed to know
English good enough to understand those messages. Also, we don't have
translations of the API docs and tutorials so we already implicitly
demand English knowledge of our packagers.

So, are there any objections to me removing the i18n support for those tools?

I'd specifically like to hear arguments from people who don't speak
English as first language.

Thanks,
Isak Savo

PS. Many of those strings are already translated by the translations
in the stable branch, so removing them only affect new translations
and if we add/change messages in the dev tools. Let's consider an
eventual removal an "investment for the future" :-)

I can't translate it, but I did find this:
http://www.pvcf.nl/easytax/linux.html
http://www.pvcf.nl/easytax/source/ib2005-1.0.x86.package

You might wanna try babelfish, although the translation was so crappy
that it was hardly readable:

    http://babelfish.altavista.com/

I really like this sentence:
"To keep the nuisance minimum the installation programme car
package is used."

WebWereld is a computer news site. The article isn't that important.
Here's a rough summary:

Many problems with Linux-beta tax office

The new software for registering taxes for 2005 is already available on
the Internet. There are criticisms.

A test version of the tax software EasyTax has appeared. There are
criticims and questions on the forums.

There are some problems with installing the software on some
Linux-distributions. For minimal hassle, autopackage was used. Users can
get the software working after some tweaking, but it's not end-user
friendly.

(bla bla insert other bad things here)

It's a bit of sensationalism.

Re: Autopackage used by Dutch tax software

It'd be interesting to know what kind of problems those are...

BTW, at the company i work for, we work on the Brazilian tax software,
and i've been thinking too about suggesting AP for delivery of the
Linux version. But i must confess sometimes i think AP still isn't as
stable as it needs to be to propose a AP-only Linux version :/

Cheers,
J.V.

Oh, that sucks - not what I was expecting! Hopefully they'll report back
to us what any issues are.
