Pitch-bend ruler broken?

This is on version 11.11.42
The pitch bend ruler in matrix view seems heavily broken. Placing a
point at position in time it gets placed in randomly different places,
deleting points is not awlays possible and doing it erratically deletes
notes, as well as screwing up the undo sistem (i.e. you delete pitch
bend points, it deletes notes and you cannot undo it, so you have lost
those notes).

Not thet the pitch bend ruler has ever been the most usable tool. But at
least it used to work in a strange but predictable manner.

Any hint?

Lorenzo.

Hi,
The link to txt2rgd.py at http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/resources/documents/rgd-HOWTO.shtml appears to be broken.  Does anyone have the link to this file?  Thanks

Crash upon "Open"

Hi List.

I'm running Rosegarden ver. 1:10-04.2-1+b1 on Debian Squeeze.

Today for the first time -- but now consistently after a dozen tries,
a reboot, and a re-installation -- Rosegarden crashes (disappears
from the screen) whenever I click to "Open" a file.

Any ideas why?

Thanks in advance for your time.
Pete

Can't connect virtual MIDI input (Windows version)

Hello!

I downloaded today Rosergarden for Windows and I found two problems:

* I have JACK for Windows also installed (it comes with last version of Hydrogen). The Windows version of Rosegarden can't work with JACK. JACK doesn't see Rosegarden and viceversa.

* I tried many Virtual MIDI ports to connect other virtual MIDI devices. I can't add anu imput MIDI and When I want to do sometimes Rosegarden crashes. I tested it with midyoke, sony virtual midi router and loopbe1, to connect http://vmpk.sourceforge.net/

Regards,

can't find notes in ANY view

I'm using Rosegarden 11.06 and am really enjoying it. However a strange thing
happened when I recorded a tuba soundfont section on track 5. There was no
clips in the arranger showing up to tell me I recorded a new segment. I play
it back around that area in time and hear the notes and tuba playing-but no
clips or midi events. I checked the event list editor the notation editor,
the matrix editor and selected space around the area of the track where I
recorded it and could not locate where the notes are. I am trying to delete
these notes and redo the performance but cannot find them. I used the undo
function many times, far past the history of when I started the recording,
but no luck. Is this a bug? What should I do? Any feedback would be GREATLY
appreciated, and I want to add this is the best sequencer of all time!

Softsynth craziness??!!

A couple of my tunes keep opening with timidity, which I do not have installed (because it sucks)... instead I have been using fluidsynth via Qsynth, and the pieces which open with that sound great. How do I get these other tunes to use the right soft synth? I can't seem to get them to stop trying to use timidity for some reason.... thanks for any suggestions.

Yamaha MU15 rgd file

Hi there,

I just started using Rosegarden and I like it very much. Unfortunately, there
was no bank mapping information for my Yamaha MU15 synthesizer, so I created a
.rgd file including the percussion mapping. If anyone is interested, I would be
glad to share it with the community.

Cheers,

MIDI PatchChange and NoteOn event timings

I have noticed that Rosegarden appears to be emitting NoteOn events
slightly before the instrument type for the channel has been been set
with a PatchChange event. This causes a glitch in the sound at the very
start of a piece that has just been loaded.

I am testing this using my own modular software synth. My synth can
respond to patch changes while notes are playing, rather than waiting
until subsequent NoteOns are received. I believe this prompt response is
correct for emulating stop changes on the organ, and pickup changes on
the electric guitar.

When Rosegarden connects its MIDI outputs to the synth, it sets up all
available channels to sensible defaults. In particular, the instrument
type is set to patch 0 in bank 0, which would be Grand Piano on a
General Midi compliant synth. If the piece requests a different
instrument type, e.g. Trumpet, then the effect of the glitch on my synth
is that Grand Piano plays very briefly, followed by the desired Trumpet
sound. If I restart the playback, there is no glitch, as the instrument
type is already set to Trumpet.

I tried this on Fluidsynth, using a GM soundfont, and the first note
plays as Grand Piano, followed by notes on Trumpet.

My workaround at present is to leave the default patch undefined, and
get the synth to render silence when it has no instrument defined. This
slightly delays the start of the first note, but I cannot hear any
timing problems resulting from this.

The timing tests I have done so far indicate that the delay between the
first NoteOn and its related PatchChange is about 10 msec.

Any thoughts on this?

Re: MIDI card for Linux

By the way, if you shop online (as I mentioned ebay.com), make sure you factor in the shipping and handling
cost. Some sellers show really cheap prices, but add ridiculous shipping and handling fees to the
transaction. So, buyers beware.

Of course, my previous direction will search only for items with "Free shipping" included. But if you are
not careful, they can really get you.

With Linux and USB devices, what you should look for is the "Class Compliant" keyword.

What I have is not a "sound card", simply an el-cheapo "class compliant" USB Midi Adapter that works fine
under Linux, more specifically Debian Sid. It works with Midi signals (sends and receives), no sound or
audio, works fine with the Midi ports for the few Yamaha, Roland, Casio keyboards I've tried with.

Go to Ebay.com, "advanced" search, for "Enter keywords or item number" field, enter:

   "usb midi adapter"

check the "Price" selection, "Show items priced from $" 0 "to $" 5

under "Show results" , check the "Free shipping"

under "Sort by" , select "Time: ending soonest", for "Results per page", select "200"

   click on "Search" button

You should see a bunch of items with "Buy it now" option , which means you don't have to wait until the end of the
auction listing, you can pay for it right away. Of course these things are shipped from Hong Kong, or China
and will often take some 3 weeks to arrive.

This one is listed for "$4.15", for that price, buy one to try out. If it works for you, you can afford to buy a
couple more for spare backups:

   http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-MIDI-Interface-Cable-Converter-PC-Music-Recorder-Keyboard-Adapter-Adaptor-/270853753296?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f102449d0

Under its description:

USB Powered and Class Compliant for true plug & play.Just connect to a computer USB socket for automatic
installation of the driver

Again what you really want is the "Class Compliant", for it to work well under Linux.

I have bought a couple of similar looking items when the prices were a bit higher. One of them was defective,
and received a replacement. They work fine for me under Linux.

Yeah, I know it's made in China. But from what I can tell, all of the more costly electronic items are, too,
inluding the Apple iPod, iPad, iPhone stuff.

Good luck.
