Re: RFC: Add social networking AR

Sorry that I didn't manage to send this earlier, I haven't been around
much for the last few days.

If you're intending merging the relationships to be part of this RFC, I
really think they should both be proposed separately because
merging/removing relationships isn't something easily reverted. In
particular, the MySpace relationship is one of the most commonly used
ones (we have almost 40,000 MySpace URLs, which makes it the 4th most
common domain after discogs.com, amazon.com and wikipedia.org) so
suggesting a change which will affect that many relationships really
should be something made clear to people, and not just something stuck
on the end of another RFC which doesn't even mention the MySpace type in
the subject.

Both the MySpace and PureVolume types have guidelines about formatting
the URLs as well, which are missing from this proposal. Then there's the
problem that we can't actually merge two relationship types, they would
all have to be migrated from one type to the other.

Classical Music (but don't run away terrified!)

Hello! I'll try to keep this brief; I'd really like to work on the issue
of classical music in MB. I've been directed at this list as a place
where much discussion/thought has gone into the classical music problem.

Thus: I'd like to collect your, er, collective knowledge on the topic in
order to a.) guide my path forward and b.) assist me once I'm on
whatever path I choose, without bothering you or others except where
input is really needed.

Everything is welcome, from offhand comments to momentous threads on the
topic on this list to relevant pages on the wiki/official guidelines
(although I've been through those pretty extensively already) to long,
impassioned rants on the topic (although your fellow list denizens may
appreciate those going straight to me), or anything else.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

online communities and social networks are quite different things, there
may be some overlap, but not enough to warrant this change.

How far back back do you want to go? I can try to dig up to 2006, although I am sure some other MB users with a better memory than mine can find lots of interesting things which I will have forgotten about...

Füńǹȳ titles, volume MXCIII

Hello everyone! May I please direct your attention to
http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=12873087

It’s another case of a band with a funny name. I don’t want the
decision to fall only to me and syntax_error (the band has only a
couple subscribers), perhaps some of you can chime in with opinions in
that edit’s comments. The details are already there, suffice it to say
that there are at least 7 different attested spellings, one of which
uses the Arrows Unicode block...

Go - The Very Best of Moby

Hi,

Recently, my edit http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=12875332
was voted down. It was to rename "Go: The Very Best of Moby" to "Go -
The Very Best of Moby". It is against
http://musicbrainz.org/doc/Subtitle_Style , but the "-" is everywhere
on the artwork and in my opinion should therefore be allowed.

Same rationale has been used on
http://musicbrainz.org/release/ade21fff-dba2-438f-8e31-5325c4afb05f.html
.

What do you think?

Regards,

Jan van Thiel (zout)

My position: wait until NGS and then, IIUC, your edit will be quite ok :-)
