cddb queries often freeze up easytag

Hi all,

About every third time I use the cddb search function it freezes up
easytag. I click on "Search" and then the program locks up while
displaying "receiving data"; my only recourse is to kill it.

I don't know what factors cause this. If I can supply any additional
information, please ask., Would gdb backtraces be helpful?

I am using v1.99.11 installed from a deb package under ubuntu (6.06).

1.99.12 compile error

Wondering whether the cddb search bug is also in the current
develepment version, I just downloaded the 1.99.12 source to compile.
Unfortunately, make exits with an error compiling "mp4_header.o":

mp4_header.c:61: error: 'MP4_MPEG4_AAC_HE_AUDIO_TYPE' undeclared here
(not in a function)
mp4_header.c: In function 'getType':
mp4_header.c:125: warning: implicit declaration of function
'MP4GetTrackMediaDataName'
mp4_header.c:125: warning: initialization makes pointer from integer
without a cast
mp4_header.c: In function 'Mp4_Header_Read_File_Info':
mp4_header.c:240: warning: implicit declaration of function
'MP4GetTrackAudioChannels'

I am trying to compile this under ubuntu (dapper).

Hmm, still getting the same "Can't write tag in file..." errors. Any
chances of reconsidering making a CVS mirror available?

What awful irony is this? We are as gods, but know it not.

1.99.12 compile error

The same thing happened to me just now, I am supplying a diff to download that does fix.

There are three problems that result from using mpeg4ip version 1.1.3.

1) The problem with MP4_MPEG4_AAC_HE_AUDIO_TYPE.
It seems that this became undefined for some reason MP4_MPEG4_AAC_HE_AUDIO_TYPE is not defined in mp4.h.  One possible solution is to add it to the mp4.h header file.  As far as I can tell it is defined as 5.  This fix i am very sure is correct.  Perhaps there is a newer version of mpeg4ip??

2) Once the above problem is resolved, two more will appear (dynamic linking problems).  The first of these two is MP4GetTrackMediaDataName and this is missing from mp4.h
As far as I can tell, the closest to what exists in the mp4.h header file would be MP4GetTrackType.  I am only slighty uncertain of this fix.  May/May not be safe, shouldn't cause any damage, even if incorrect.

3) The third problem is that MP4GetTrackAudioMpeg4Type is missing from mp4.h.
I could not find anything similar to this in my mp4.h file, so I just tried MP4GetTrackAudioMpeg4Type.
This is most likely NOT a correct fix.
However, my goal here was to get it to compile and run ,  and this is a "developmental stage"

So, to the easytag team, what mpeg4ip version are you using? (and from what project, I cannot seem to remember which it specifically comes from as I did not directly install the mpeg4ip-1.1.3.tar.gz source.  is it ffmpeg?)

As a finally warning, the patch is not entirely correct, but it works. So if you want something that will run NOW, it will work, but some real fixes are still required to replace this patch.

easytag not displaying mp3 tags

Hi all,

I have been encountering a perplexing problem wtih easytag over the
past couple of weeks: it is not recognizing the tags of mp3 files. (It
sees the tags of flac and ogg files without problem.) I know the tags
are there, since when I play an mp3 file in amarok it displays the tag
information correctly.

I am seeing this behaviour both under Unbuntu (Dapper) and Fedora Core 5.

FC5 rpms (both installed in mid-March):
easytag-1.99.12-1.fc5
libid3tag-0.15.1b

Ubuntu debs (both installed at the beginning of June):
easytag-1.99.11-1
libid3tag-0.15.1b-8

Something seems to have changed on both my systems. But what?

and more reliable than id3lib... Thanks

Re: EasyTAG to taglib

I'm not an EasyTAG developer, but I'll put a word in here (I've used
both libraries). The two are very different, so it wouldn't be a
trivial migration. The biggest issue is that TagLib does not support
writing ID3v2.3, only v2.4, and the author has no intention of ever
supporting writing v2.3 tags. And while v2.3 may be an old standard,
it's also the most widely supported one. (To be fair, id3lib doesn't
support v2.4 for either reading or writing, and since it's not being
updated that's also unlikely to change).

I'd really like to see a decent C++ library that supports both v2.3
and v2.4, but none has emerged. And given how many things either don't
support v2.4 (Windows XP, most versions of WinAmp, lame) or have very
buggy support (iTunes) I don't see much point in moving to it.

I was wondering about this too, since apps like amarok now support
ID3v2.4, which id3lib can't handle.

Re: A couple of issues with file-directory renaming

This is a message which I sent after subscribing to your list in June.  Apparently it was not received by your system or not distributed to your list.

---

I am currently using EasyTAG 1.99.11 from Ubuntu 6.06.  My goal was to rename >10000 files, based on the immaculate tags contained in the files, thus coordinating file names and organizing them into directories.

Two issues prevented this from being a smooth operation.

1)  Occasionally EasyTAG encounters two copies of a song which happily coexisted in separate directories before, but will now find themselves sharing a single name in the same directory.  EasyTAG is justifiably puzzled by this and pops up an Error dialog box offering one to skip the operation.  This is counterproductive, because it requires the user to babysit the file renaming operation.  It would be better if EasyTAG adopted the convention that when it is asked to create a file with a name where a file already exists, it would simply add a (2) or a _2 at the end of the file name, and continue.

2) The second problem seems to be a bug.  Frequently EasyTAG issues an error message "Can't remove old directory <some directory name> (Permission denied)".  As far as I can tell, this occurs under the following circumstances:  My disk contains multiple instances of Artist/Album-1, Artist/Album-2, ... which EasyTAG processes in order, renaming the files and moving them to a new location.  Once all the files from the directory have been removed, EasyTAG removes the directory, which is great.  However, it seems that once the last Album has been processed, the Album and Artist directory deletion either occurs in the wrong sequence or is attempted twice.  Either way, the error message pertains to Artist/Album_last.  As in the case of issue 1), the fact that the process is frequently stopped by these error messages prevents the automatic processing of a large number of files.  After analysing this problem a circumvention trick occurred to me.  Basically, I realized that EasyTAG would not attempt to remove a directory unless it had successfully moved all the files from the directory.  Thus, I decided to add a non-music file to each of the directories which EasyTAG would be processing:

$ find . -type d -exec touch {}/foo \;

This had the desired effect, because EasyTAG ran uninterrupted for the several hours it required to complete the renaming task.

Thank you very much for EasyTAG.

Best regards.

  Gísli

interface, feature

Hello,

I've been looking for long time for a friendly GUI of a mp3 tagger.
It seems I've found it! ;)

If it is something I dislike, is the automatic renaming and dialog asking for saving changes when I tried for browsing the folders.
One more thing: it would be nice to see mode info on tag per file in the list (like title, author, album, year).

Greetz,
Mike
