Starting apache in non-daemon mode

Hi,

When I start apache 2.0 in Linux, it starts itself in daemon mode with
PPID=1, and having its own unix session ID and program group ID.

Is it possible to configure apache to run in a non-daemon mode, and not
to start a new unix session?

Thanks,

RE: file requests not answered by apache

I was having a similar problem and it was something related to the file
system being corrupted. It was very helpful to analyze the content of
the images being downloaded with a text/hex editor and compare it with
the "correct" image.

Subject: [users <at> httpd] file requests not answered by apache

Hello,

I'm using

Apache/2.0.50 (Win32) DAV/2 SVN/1.1.4 PHP/4.3.11 Server at pifloxp Port
81

And sometime some images are not found by the apache server and the
browser
display the "File not available" error.
Sometime it freezes and still search and wait for the file.
Sometime the file is loaded and displayed, but after a lot of refresh
queries.

Does this mean something ?

I have opened the error log, and nothing abnormal is mentionned in.

In the access log, we find the request for the file, that is ok :

There's the -X command line option, which turns on single process mode. I'm
not sure if that is what you want though ;)

This caused by the Group #-1 directive in your conf. Change it to a
reasonable value and the message goes away ;-)

RE: htaccess help

Plain text please...

Couple of possibilities:

- you have a wrong username/password: If you get it wrong the browser will pop up the window again ad
infinitum. Check carefully and remember case is important (in fact, create a new account in the password
file with user=aaa and password=aaa - all lower-case so you don't make any mistakes).

- you are nesting authentication realms: You can only have one layer of authentication in HTTP. So if you
have a password on dir1, you can't have another password on dir1/subdir. Check you're not doing this.

BTW, as well as posting in plain text, it's useful if you tell us your apache version and OS, at least.

Rgds,
Owen Boyle
