committed to trunk and 2.2.x, will resurrect thread here if anyone
takes issue with the replaced text.

clarify NVH, discourage NVH *

I've tried to clarify the relationship between NameVirtualHost and
VirtualHost, while also discouraging leaving ports off of both of them
because of how frequently this causes trouble for users who add SSL.

Diff of html.en only: http://people.apache.org/~covener/vhost.diff

Interested in comments, IMO it helps get rid of some of the
ambiguity/confusion but still leaves the doc as pretty confusing.

Have you looked at the myriad og VH content on the wiki? A lot of this
comes direct from supporting users, and the very common mistakes made.

You yourself know, that the wiki often contains useful stuff.

Just an idea.

MMapStatic directive

Hi to all,

MMapStatic directive is mentioned in files mod/mod_file_cache.html and
caching.html (both 2.2.x and trunk branches), but does not appear in the
directives list (mod/directives.html).

Does this directive actually exist, or was it replaced by MMapFile ?

Tony,

Not sure what you're suggesting - to link to the wiki, or to crib stuff from there into the docs? I'm in favor of the latter, always. I tend to think of the wiki as a scratchpad for the official docs, although we use it as such less often than I'd like.

mmapstatic doesn't appear in the source for either 2.2.x or trunk.

Certainly the latter. That was the original objective of the wiki after
all. This will hopefully go some way to showing that the wiki can be
used to help generate community based documentation, and having it
ratified by those of us supporting users frequently with content from
the wiki helps make this point too.

Cheers,
Tony

It appears in
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/httpd/httpd/trunk/docs/manual/caching.xml and http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/httpd/httpd/trunk/docs/manual/mod/mod_file_cache.xml.

In addition, there's an inconsistency in this small extract of mod_file_cache.xml :

<section id="using"><title>Using mod_file_cache</title> <p><module>mod_file_cache</module> caches a list of statically configured files via <directive module="mod_file_cache" >MMapFile</directive> or <directive module="mod_file_cache" >CacheFile</directive> directives in the main server configuration.</p> <p>Not all platforms support both directives. For example, Apache on Windows does not currently support the <directive module="mod_file_cache">MMapStatic</directive> directive, while other platforms, like AIX, support both. First paragraph says there are two directives : MMapFile and CacheFile , but second paragraph says Windows does not support MMapStatic directive ???

Turkish man pages

Hi,

Translation of the files under docs/manual/programs/ into Turkish has
been completed. As you know, these documents are used to generate the
man pages, but currently only in English. I have made some modifications
to generate the man pages in Turkish as well. The man pages in English
and in Turkish generated will be found at the following locations
respectively:
docs/manual/man/
docs/manual/man/tr/

Since, according to docs/manual/style/lang-targets.xml, only English and
Turkish are the target languages for man page generation, I have not
made any modifications for other languages.

The related patches are attached here. I will commit these changes to
the 2.0.x, 2.2.x and trunk branches, if that is OK with you.

The man pages need to be installed in the filesystem under the directory
PREFIX/share/man/tr/. The corresponding installation procedure of the
server needs to be changed accordingly, which is beyond my capability.

Best regards,
Nilgün

Tackling the Security Tips page

Hi,

Two months ago Rich asked me to help with the Security Tips page and I
agreed. I subscribed to this list straight away but it was only a few
days ago that I started thinking about what needs to be done. (I fear
the delay may be indicative when it comes to my future performance,
but I will try to do better.) To help me understand the scope of the
problem of securing Apache, I created the Apache Security Model, which
I've just published:

http://www.apachesecurity.net/blog/Apache-Security-Model.png

I'd appreciate if you can take a moment to examine and comment on the model.

I will then draft the new Security Tips page, using the model as guidance.
