Translations
============

* We appear to have people working on translation into the following
  languages. These may just be the 'it worked' page, but if so the authors
  of those should perhaps be contacted to help do the rest.. :-) Note that
  this list is NOT identical to that for the 2.0 documentation project!

Decisions pending
=================

- Remove several out-of-place files into somewhere in the tree outside
  of the actual web site content? Erik suggests we merge the two icons
  readmes into one. Perhaps all of these go into httpd-2.0/docs/README?
    error/readme
    icons/readme
    icons/small/readme.txt
  Votes for a single top-level README reference?

Things That Need Fixing
=======================

- Windows platform docs are in desperate need of rewrites/updates for 2.0.
    - Bill Rowe and Bill Stoddard are good contacts for tech questions.
    - "using apache" has been done, "compiling apache" is still open
    - hints on uninstalling apache (exit monitor, close directories,
      registry entries etc) (PR 10154)
    - FAQ: UTF-8 config and URL encoding for non-ascii characters.
    - FAQ: AcceptEx failed / virusscanner, firewall fun

I now consider the LaTeX version of the docs to be almost on par with the
html and msi versions in terms of overall accuracy and usability. Lots of
little issues remain, but I don't think they seriously affect the
usability of the PDF. (Well, it would be more usable if it was way
smaller, but...)

Of course, if nobody but me ever plays with the LaTeX/PDF version, then it
will surely fade away over time. So it would be nice if others could make
sure they can build it, and give me any feedback on the process.

I just added some notes to the bottom of
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-project/docsformat.html
that should help, and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Could you explain the phrase: "transforming the xml files to LaTeX using
the "latex-en" Ant target." How exactly do I do that?

Pass "latex-en" as an argument to the build.sh/build.cmd script that you
normally use to build the docs.

Seems like you've had to do this alot lately. Would you like me to
request that the infrastructure team put this in the auto-tarball scripts
that dump stuff on cvs.apache.org?

Hmm, I'd say no. The zip file is generated by `build tools` which not only
zips the files, but fixes some line endings and copies the text files
(README, LICENSE, NOTICE) to *.txt versions for the convenience of windows
users.
And it should not change that often (theoretically ;-), i.e. not on daily or
weekly base.

The other advantage is, that it's mirrored in dist/docs (iirc cvs snapshots
are not).
