I've wanted this feature in mod-include for years, and have been too
lazy to do it.
(relying on custom module hacks to implement it)

as for PHP security holes.. maybe a config option or something to
enable/disable it.

-1 from me (if that counts.)

Using ProxyPass should be fine for 95% of the use cases??

ProxyPass /cnn http://www.cnn.com/

Re: UDP support in mod_perl2/apache

I put out a patchset a few months ago to support UDP in trunk and 2.2.x
branches of httpd (for a mod_dns protocol module that we're currently
in the process of releasing to the public). The patchset only works for
the unix flavor of APR and the prefork MPM at the moment (I'm sure if it
gets adopted we can work out the other MPMs and APR flavors)

You can grab the patchset for trunk at
http://www.mail-archive.com/dev <at> httpd.apache.org/msg37727.html

The same patchset can be used for 2.2.x branch pretty much as is with
the single addition of backporting the apr_socket_sendto function from
trunk (it's broken in the APR that ships with 2.2.x)

If you have any issues applying it/using it/integrating with mod_per
(though I don't think the mod_perl API should need any tweaking to
utilize this), I'd be happy to work with you (or whomever else).

With ApacheCon & the hackathon coming up soon, this would be a great
time to ping dev <at> httpd for possible inclusion in trunk...

We agree that's true - have you looked at apr 1.2.x branch lately? A week
or so ago I backported the fixes to properly fix up apr_socket_recvfrom,
and am wondering if there are additional bug fixes required to this code?
Or is this the addition of a feature (which 1.2.x will not offer)?

Re: UDP support in mod_perl2/apache

Nice. A cursory look appears to match what I have.

I also dug up another nugget - a complete patch against httpd-2.2.6 for
the UDP support (excluding only the APR recvfrom issue) - I thought I
had it lying around somewhere. I included two; one with and one without
the APR backport. Rolf, try to use this (use the one with the
apr-backport) instead of downloading and patching trunk.

Only in httpd-2.2.6-orig: .deps
Only in httpd-2.2.6: httpd-udp-disconnected.patch

Rather than busting on 2.2.{stale} I'd much rather focus on getting your
proposed enhancements into trunk, and plow forward to ship 2.4 httpd for
udp support. My 2c US (small and shrinking)

Re: UDP support in mod_perl2/apache

[removed modperl cc]

+1 That's why the original patchset was prepared against trunk. The
backport in my previous mail is more for getting feedback from
early-adopters...
