Your removal from the VICUG-L list

Tue, 3 Jun 2008 00:01:27

You have been automatically removed from the VICUG-L list (Visually
Impaired Computer Users' Group List) as a result of repeated delivery
error reports from your mail system. This decision was based on the
automatic error monitoring policy in effect for the list, and has not
been reviewed or otherwise confirmed by a human being. If you receive
this message, it means that something is wrong: while you are obviously
able to receive mail, your mail system has been regularly reporting that
your account did not exist, or that you were otherwise permanently unable
to receive mail. Here is some information which may assist you or your
local help desk in determining the cause of the problem:

- The failing address is gcav-vicugl <at> M.GMANE.ORG.

- The first error was reported on 2008-05-27.

- Since then, a total of 87 delivery errors have been received.

- The last reported error was: 5.4.7 554 5.4.7 [internal] exceeded max
time without delivery

PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS MESSAGE. While you can of course re-subscribe
to the list, it is important for you to report this problem to your mail
administrator so that it can be solved. This problem is not specific to
the VICUG-L list, and also affects your private mail. This means that YOU
HAVE PROBABLY LOST SOME PRIVATE MAIL AS WELL. Anyone trying to write to
you during the same time frame will probably have received the same
errors for the same reason. The VICUG-L list is but one of the many
people who may have tried to write to you while your mail system was

Sharing large files

xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">

It would seem in today’s world we couldn’t have enough free large file sharing sites. So here is one more site.

Sharing large files

Sharing large files with someone in your office isn't difficult. Sharing big files with nearby friends and family is also fairly easy.

But when recipients are scattered around the country, things are more difficult.

You shouldn't send huge files via e-mail. That's bad etiquette because it slows recipients' e-mail. You could also reach the inbox's storage quota. Or, an Internet service provider could strip the large  attachments.

So, if you have files to share, try filemail. You can upload up to 2 gigabytes of data. It can be in multiple files.

Then, enter your recipients' e-mail addresses and a message. They will get an e-mail so they can download the files.

You can set time and download limits on the files. Also, the files are encrypted when they're uploaded to ensure privacy.

Fonts In Office 2003

Good morning, VICUG listers,

I've recently installed Microsoft Office 2003, Student and Teachers Edition--which I didn't remember I had purchased years ago until it turned up in my spring cleaning, and which, since I'm no longer a student, has saved me the expense of purchasing Office 2007 now. I'm running Windows XP, SP2.

I write to ask for help with a problem I'm having with fonts in MS Word (and possibly with the other Office programs as well, though I haven't checked).

In Word, invoking the Format Menu, then choosing Font brings up a list of only four fonts:

Times New Roman
Device Font 10cpi
Device Font 12cpi; and
Device Font 17cpi.

WordPad, on the other hand, displays a huge list of fonts, which reside in c:\Windows\Fonts.

Can anyone tell me how to tweak Word (or Office) 2003 to obtain fonts from this directory? I've looked through the Tools, Options dialogs in Word without success; perhaps I missed something.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

inappropriate answer

I would like to refute Stewart's message to this group. If I recall, I
said I was a relatively new computer user. Folks, I'm learning to use
jaws through the university of hard knocks. My father baught jaws for
me so I would be able to use a computer. I found the literature that
came with jaws very difficult to comprehend, and I still do. I am sick
and tired of people who respond with jargon when all I want is a simple
answer to a question. I find the people at freedom science fiction to
be much less than helpful. I felt Stewart's answer to be unhelpful,
because he didn't explain to me how to go about making the changes in a
way i understood. OK, so ya hit shift something or other, but then
where the heck do ya go. Don't leave me hanging, man. Anyway, I just
wanted to give my side to things. I am sorry, however for calling the
guy and idiot.

Clarification of the term "ONline" Storage

I never heard of external hard drives being referred to as "online
storage", but to clarify, I'm looking for off site storage where I
can safely back up masses of data. I'm in the process of putting all
my music on a 1 terrabyte drive and I have several other USB drives:
all of which I want to safely back up at some distant site. Lots of
these sites are screen reader unfriendly. I was/am asking which
services blind folks find user friendly and easy to use. I use WindowEyes 6.1.
Thanks again,
Judy

Cell phones

Hi. I have a friend who enjoys texting on her cell phone. She however
has low vision and her old phone needs replaced. She can't seem to find
one that she can read the text on. Does anyone have any suggestions on
phones that are easy to read?

Thanks,

Mick
